How does this save my company time and money?
From my personal experience of working with service companies and understanding how they operate, I know how they do things when it comes to maintaining and repairing fleet vehicles. Most of the time the lead man driving the work van has to drive to the dealership or service center and get a ride back. These methods take at least 2 employees off a job or task while being on the clock, and also required 2 vehicles to be used. Other methods I have seen is managers or owners driving the vehicles to the shop themselves after hours or during a slow work day. This is fine, but time is money and driving back forth to shops can cost you a lot of time.
